Deep Dish Dungeon First Impressions
What happens when you mix the crafting and survival elements of Valheim, the blocky charm of Minecraft, and a handcrafted puzzle dungeon crawler? You get a brilliant little indie game called Deep Dish Dungeon. Welcome back to the gaming section, everybody. Recently, I jumped into this atmospheric multiplayer demo with a fellow content creator. We dove deep into the dark and found some seriously unique ideas, a few rough edges, and a whole lot of potential. While there is no official release date just yet, this is definitely a game you want to keep on your radar.
Key Moments & Highlights
[0:55] Surviving the Opening: The game drops you in with zero handholding. You start with just six inventory slots and immediately need to scavenge for sticks, mushrooms, and a torch. The game actually forces you to eat and drink just to open the first main door, serving as a clever way to teach you that food equals progress.
[1:42] Unlocking Base Camp: After getting past your first skeleton and solving a neat physics puzzle using crates to reach a key, you unlock your base camp. Complete with a chest, a sleeping bag spawn point, a bonfire, and a workbench, this is where the core gameplay loop really opens up.
[3:15] Unique Smelting Mechanics: The crafting system is incredibly satisfying. To make keys for locked doors, you load up a smelter with scrap metal and coal, place a mold in front of it, and pull a lever to physically drop the hot metal into shape. It is easily one of the coolest forging mechanics I have seen in a while.
[4:05] Hilarious Proximity Chat: The multiplayer integration is where this game truly shines. The proximity chat gives it that funny Lethal Company vibe where voices naturally fade as your friends wander down the hall. There is even a fully functional intercom system at the main camp so you can broadcast dinner announcements across the whole dungeon.
[5:20] Dynamic Lighting and Teamwork: Unlit areas are pitch black, which forces some amazing teamwork. One person has to play the dedicated torchbearer while the other acts as the tank holding a sword and shield to clear out the monsters.
[6:45] The Rough Edges: Since this is a demo, there are a few things that need ironing out. The combat feels a bit floaty and lacks weight. Oddly, monsters drop absolutely no loot when defeated, and the food drain is incredibly fast right now, which might get tedious for some players. You also cannot pick your arrows back up after shooting them.

Conclusion
Despite a few minor combat gripes, the demo ran incredibly smoothly with zero crashes or major bugs. The physics based puzzles and real time coordination make it a perfect game for Friday nights with your friends, and I guarantee it will bring out plenty of laughs. You can really see the passion the developers have poured into this project. If this looks like your kind of game, be sure to check out their Steam page and drop them a wishlist to support a small studio. Have you tried the demo yet?
