Nakwon Last Paradise First Impressions

Welcome back to the gaming section. If you have been following my recent runs in other extraction shooters like Marathon or Arc Raiders, you know I am always hunting for the next great gameplay loop. But Nakwon Last Paradise throws a massive, terrifying curveball into the mix. This is a hardcore PvPvE zombie survival game set in the ruined, incredibly atmospheric streets of South Korea. I spent the weekend grinding through the closed alpha test, and I am excited to share my honest thoughts on what Nexon has cooked up so far.

Key Moments & Highlights

  • [1:15] Paying Rent in the Apocalypse: The core progression loop is completely unique. The game is split into two distinct halves: high stakes scavenging out in the city and a life simulation back at your base. You are literally forced to pay rent to maintain your citizen grade. Failing to pay downgrades your living conditions, meaning every single run into the zone carries massive weight just to keep a roof over your head.

  • [3:20] Brutal Melee Focus: If you are expecting a typical run and gun experience, think again. Guns are incredibly rare. You are forced into tense, weighty melee combat using scavenged fire axes, sledgehammers, and baseball bats. The combat feels heavy and satisfying, though I am really hoping they eventually add a crossbow so I can live out my ultimate zombie survival fantasy.

  • [5:45] Stealth and Survival Mechanics: Going loud will get you killed. Every action generates an echo pulse that alerts nearby enemies, including screamers and massive armored juggernauts. On top of the zombies, you have to constantly micromanage your hunger and your morale. Eating food helps your hunger but lowers your morale, creating a really clever balancing act that keeps you on your toes.

  • [8:10] Skills and Base Building: The depth of the RPG mechanics really surprised me. Between raids, you encounter cool text based scenarios that can reward you with extra loot if you make the right dialogue choices. You also get some wild active skills to unlock. Sneaking past a horde of undead by hiding inside a cardboard box is both hilarious and completely terrifying.

  • [10:30] The Nexon Elephant in the Room: The Unreal Engine 5 visuals are stunning and the atmosphere is top notch, but I have to be cautious. Since this is a Nexon title launching with a free to play model, the future monetization strategy is a huge concern. Additionally, the alpha had some barebones settings like locked keybinds and forced open mic proximity chat, plus a few UI accessibility issues regarding the stealth sound pulses that desperately need fixing.

Want to see that hilarious cardboard box stealth in action or watch me nearly get destroyed by an armored juggernaut? Make sure to head over to the Chill Dad Gaming YouTube channel to check out the full gameplay video and see the intense combat for yourself!

Conclusion

Nakwon Last Paradise is doing something genuinely special in the survival extraction genre by making combat a terrifying last resort rather than the primary focus. The blend of brutal melee, high stakes scavenging, and base management creates a fantastic gameplay loop. While it still has some alpha jank to iron out, I will be keeping a very close eye on its development. Head over to the channel, drop a comment, and let me know if you got a chance to dive into the play test!
